A new Fire TV Stick works better when privacy, display, power and app settings are reviewed before daily use. Menu names can vary slightly by model and software version.
1. Confirm display and audio
Open Display & Sounds and check resolution, dynamic range and audio options against the television and sound system you actually use. Automatic settings are usually a good starting point.
2. Review privacy controls
Open Preferences or Privacy and review device usage and advertising settings. Choose options that match your comfort level and read the descriptions before changing them.
3. Set parental controls if needed
If children use the device, review Parental Controls and purchase restrictions. Store the PIN securely and do not reuse an important account password.
4. Remove unwanted apps
Uninstall apps you will not use and keep the home screen focused on maintained services from the Amazon Appstore.
5. Check power and sleep behavior
Review the sleep and power settings so the device behaves predictably when you stop watching. A restart remains useful after major updates.
6. Install updates
Open My Fire TV or Device & Software, About and Check for System Update. Keep the device connected to power and Wi-Fi while an update installs.
