Remote pairing problems are common during setup, but most can be narrowed down without replacing the device. Work through these checks in order and test the remote after each one.
1. Check the batteries
Remove both batteries, inspect the contacts and install a fresh matched pair. Confirm the positive and negative ends match the symbols inside the compartment.
2. Restart the Fire TV Stick
Unplug the Fire TV Stick and its power adapter for at least 30 seconds, then reconnect it. A full power cycle can clear a temporary pairing or HDMI startup problem.
3. Pair the remote again
Hold the Home button near the Fire TV Stick for about 10 seconds and follow any pairing message on screen. Keep other Bluetooth devices away while pairing.
4. Check the television input
A remote may be working even when the television is showing the wrong HDMI input. Select the input used by the Fire TV Stick and check whether the on-screen response returns.
5. Reduce interference
Move the Fire TV Stick away from crowded cables, metal objects and enclosed spaces. If the device is powered from a television USB port, test the supplied power adapter instead.
6. Use the Fire TV app temporarily
If the television is already connected and the phone is on the same Wi-Fi network, the official Amazon Fire TV app may provide temporary navigation while you troubleshoot the physical remote.
7. Replace only after testing
If fresh batteries, power cycling and re-pairing do not help, test another compatible remote or contact the manufacturer. Avoid unknown pairing tools and unofficial download sites.
